The government continues to reform visa and migration policy to better align with labour market needs. For example, in 2024–25, migration planning emphasized skilled streams and “skills in demand.” New proposals also raise the minimum income threshold for skilled visas (from AUD 70,000 to AUD 73,000 effective late 2025) to ensure wage parity and reduce exploitation.
